Marcia Fleischman - Co-pastorMarcia Fleischman
Co-pastor

Marcia grew up in Lexington, Missouri. In 1970, she recieved a Certificat des Études Français Modernes at the Université de Strasbourg in France. Her education continued in Amercia at DePauw University in Greeencastle, Indiana, where she received a B.A. in French and Education. Marcia received a Masters of Education in Guidance and Counseling at the University of Missouri-Columbia in 1972. Marcia has been a member at Broadway Church since 1975 and joined the church staff as a Children's Minister in June of 1985.

She received her Masters of Divinity in Theology at the Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Kansas City, Missouri in 1993, graduating with honors. Marcia holds the patent for the BlessMyBodBra®, which sold on QVC. After surviving a double lung transplant in February 2003, Marcia began to paint pictures of the visions of angels she received. Her spiritual gifts include prophecy, encouragement, leadership, and hospitality.

Paul Smith - Co-pastorPaul Smith

Serving several Southern Baptist churches in St. Louis while in high school and college, he completed his BA in psychology at Washington University in 1959 on a full academic scholarship. During that time, he also founded and led a series of annual youth camps and college retreats that were attended by thousands of young people over a period of ten years.

After receiving a Masters degree in theology and biblical studies from Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Kansas City, Missouri, he came to Broadway Baptist Church in midtown Kansas City in 1963 where he continues to pastor and teach today.

In his soon to be half a century as pastor at Broadway, the church experienced significant and on-going change, becoming nationally recognized as a pioneer in small groups, contemporary worship, team leadership, justice issues, progressive theology, church renewal, and spiritual formation. It continues to evolve today.

In 1980 he created a workshop on spiritual gifts which is used around the world, with over thirty thousand copies of the materials in print including Spanish, German, and Portuguese editions.

He delivered the 1988 Distinguished Christian Scholar Lecture Series at William Jewell College and has been listed in every edition of Who's Who in Religion since 1974. He was given the GLAAD Leadership Award in 1995.

Smith has taught extensively on contemporary church life in many churches and schools including St. Paul Methodist School of Theology, Unity Ministerial School, and Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.

In addition to hundreds of CDs, brochures, booklets, and published articles outlining his theological beliefs and practices, he contributed two chapters to the book Enabling the Dialogue About Homosexuality, and has authored two books, Is It Okay To Call God Mother? Considering the feminine face of God (Hendrickson) and Integral Christianity – The Spirit’s Call to Evolve (Paragon House).

David Hunker - Worship PastorDavid Hunker
Worship Pastor

David Hunker has been a member of Broadway Church off and on for over forty years. He currently serves on the Worship Celebration Team, the Coordinating Team, the Capital Campaign Team, and the Finance Committee. In July 2009 Broadway ordained, affirmed, and installed David as its Worship Pastor.

Carol Ramirez - SecretaryCarol Ramirez

Carol Ramirez has been an active member of Broadway Church for 41 years. Broadway is where she met her husband Charles. They have two children, Tony and Lupe, and two grandsons, Malin and Mesan. She and her husband have hosted 11 foreign exchange students from Azerbaijan, Brazil, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Japan, Mexico, and Russia. She enjoys traveling and photography.

Carol received a BSE from the Kansas State Teachers College of Emporia and a MA in English Education from the University of Kansas. She taught English and Journalism at Paseo High School, Wyandotte High School, and Sumner Academy for 34 years. After retiring from teaching, she became the part-time office administrator at Broadway in 2001. In addition to her secretarial duties, she currently serves as the chairman of the Programs Committee, serves on the Coordinating Team, and helps manage the Church’s Chit-Chat Café.

Donna Cook - Children's EducatorDonna Cook
Children's Educator

Donna Cook joined the Broadway Church staff as its Children’s Church Educator in May 2010. She has been married for over 39 years to Dan Cook and has four children and five grandchildren. She often spends her spare time with her husband and grandchildren. She enjoys Yoga, Pilates, and making jewelry.

Donna earned her BS in Child Development and Learning degree from the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg, Missouri and an MA in Curriculum and Instruction degree with an emphasis in Early Childhood Education from the University of Missouri in Kansas City, Missouri. She has over twenty years of experience working with children and families. She has instituted many new early childhood programs, created and implemented curriculum, and conducted parent and teacher workshops. Donna has held numerous positions in early childhood education including teacher, center director, researcher, instructional coach and consultant. In addition to being the Children’s Church Educator for Broadway Church, she currently serves as an Adjunct Faculty member in the Child Growth and Development Department at Penn Valley Community College and as an Education Coordinator at Operation Breakthrough.
